Adult ADHD
Therapy
New Jersey + Pennsylvania
With Amy Rae Johnson, LCSW
I received my own late ADHD diagnosis. I know what it’s like to mask, burn out, and feel socially exhausted trying to keep up.
Are you always behind no matter how hard you try?
Do you wonder why systems that work for everyone else never work for you?
The world is not built for people with ADHD. We are constantly adapting to expectations, timelines, and structures that were never designed for our brains. These are nervous system and executive functioning issues that can be supported.
Clients Come To Me With:
Chronic overwhelm
Task paralysis
Time blindness
Missed details
Executive dysfunction
Emotional flooding
Relationship strain
Burnout cycles
Many adults with ADHD are high-achieving, creative, and deeply sensitive. Instead of slowing down, they’ve learned to push past their limits, worsening stress and overwhelm.
How Adult ADHD Therapy With Me Works
We focus on understanding how your brain works and building supports that actually accommodate you.
A core skill we work on is slowing down. As adults with ADHD, we move too fast internally.
When we reduce nervous system overload, executive functioning improves naturally. Together, we build skills, self-compassion, and acceptance so you aren’t fighting yourself.
Modalities I Use
-
Helps to accept your experiences while guiding you towards value-based steps that matter most to you.
-
Reduces shame and self-criticism that build after years of feeling behind or “not good enough.”
-
Centers on your lived experience and strengths instead of trying to correct or pathologize you.
-
Builds awareness so you can learn to pause, refocus, and respond instead of reacting.
-
Regulates the nervous system so focus and emotional control become more accessible.
-
Helps release emotional blocks and overwhelm that keep you stuck in cycles of burnout.
-
Supports executive functioning with concrete, realistic strategies for daily life.
With the right support, ADHD becomes something you work with, not against.

About Amy Rae Johnson, LCSW
I am a therapist with ADHD too. I understand hyperfocus, losing track of time, burnout cycles, and the pressure to appear more composed than you feel. You do not need to explain or justify your experience here.
My therapy is collaborative and flexible. We tailor what works for you, not just what works for most people, because one-size-fits-all doesn’t fit everyone. Sessions are supportive, practical, and grounded in acceptance rather than judgment.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy taking photographs, creating mixed media art, and hiking. I love traveling coastlines, collecting seaglass, and exploring new places, especially abroad. I share my home with my husband, two cats, and lots of plants.
Availability: I work with clients via Telehealth across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
