Somatic Therapy

New Jersey + Pennsylvania

With Amy Rae Johnson, LCSW

I’m a somatic therapist who used somatic therapy to heal my own trauma.

Have you done years of therapy but still feel stuck?

Do you understand your patterns, yet your body keeps reacting?

Many of my clients come to me after their progress has plateaued. They can explain their story, but their nervous system is still on edge. Their body feels flooded, shut down, or constantly bracing for something bad to happen.

Somatic therapy helps when talking wasn’t enough.

Clients Come To Me When They’re:

  • Stuck after talk therapy

  • On edge + reactive

  • Disconnected from body

  • Easily overwhelmed

  • Anxious or burnt out

  • Shut down, numb, living without joy

These are not your personal failures. They are nervous system responses that can be healed.

How Somatic Therapy With Me Works

My somatic therapy is body-centered, grounding, and relational. Instead of trying to push through or overanalyze, we focus on building awareness of what’s happening inside and responding with intention.

We move at a pace that is set by you and feels safe to you.

As your body begins to recognize safety, mindfulness improves. With time, you’ll learn how to be present with emotions instead of feeling overcome by fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown.

Modalities I Use

  • Builds awareness of physical sensations to gently release stored stress and trauma so your body can settle instead of staying on high alert.

  • Helps you understand your nervous system states and build skills to move out of fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown, and into safety and connection.

  • Supports compassion for the different parts of you to soften inner conflict so you feel more whole and aligned with yourself.

  • Uses eye positions to release deep emotional pain stored in the body when talking alone has not brought relief.

  • Increases present-moment awareness so you can respond instead of react.

  • Helps quiet the harsh inner critic and develop self-understanding instead of shame.

Bridge Your
Mind + Body

When your nervous system relearns safety,
daily life is different.

About Amy Rae Johnson, LCSW

My therapy is designed for people who are ready for something deeper than insight. I believe healing happens when your body feels safe enough to let go and be seen.

Sessions with me are warm, collaborative, and grounded in real connection. We slow things down, listen to your body, and work together to release what you’ve been carrying. I am not a distant or stoic therapist. You get the full me, and our work is rooted in a genuine person-to-person relationship.

Outside of therapy, I love being in nature, creating mixed media art, and beachcombing. I’m an animal lover, boba tea fan, and share my home with my husband, two cats, and lots of plants.

Availability: I work with clients via Telehealth across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
